La Colección Bakuchiol

Two internationally awarded formulas. One clinically backed ingredient. Zero retinol side effects.

Bakuchiol skincare formulated to support smoother, more balanced skin.

Bakuchiol is a plant-derived meroterpene that activates the same cellular pathways as retinol — stimulating collagen synthesis, improving skin texture, and reducing visible signs of photoaging — without the irritation, dryness, or photosensitivity associated with retinoids.

Not all bakuchiol is the same. Both By Valenti formulas use exclusively Sytenol® A, the only 99%+ pure, REACH-registered bakuchiol manufactured by Sytheon — the company that first introduced bakuchiol to cosmetic applications in 2007. Most bakuchiol products on the market use lower-grade or mislabeled substitutes. Ours does not.

Frequently asked questions

What is bakuchiol?

Bakuchiol is a plant-derived meroterpene isolated from the seeds of Psoralea corylifolia. It is used in skincare as a natural retinol alternative, with clinical evidence supporting its efficacy in reducing wrinkles, improving skin tone, and stimulating collagen production without retinoid-associated irritation.

Is bakuchiol as effective as retinol?

Clinical studies show bakuchiol produces comparable reductions in wrinkle depth to retinol over 12 weeks. For hyperpigmentation specifically, Sytenol® A bakuchiol outperformed retinol in a 12-week trial, producing a 59% reduction versus 44% for retinol. Results vary by formulation, concentration, and bakuchiol source.

What is Sytenol® A and why does it matter?

Sytenol® A is the trademarked name for the pharmaceutical-grade bakuchiol manufactured by Sytheon — the company that introduced bakuchiol to cosmetic applications. It is 99%+ pure, fully REACH-registered, and the ingredient used in all peer-reviewed clinical studies on bakuchiol efficacy. Most bakuchiol products on the market do not specify their source or use lower-grade alternatives. By Valenti is an authorized Sytenol® A skincare lab and the only bakuchiol grade we use in our formulas.

Is bakuchiol safe during pregnancy?

Bakuchiol is widely considered a retinol alternative suitable for pregnancy-aware skin because it does not contain vitamin A derivatives. However, for specific medical guidance during pregnancy, consultation with a healthcare provider is recommended.

Can bakuchiol be used with other active ingredients?

Yes. Unlike retinol, bakuchiol does not require isolation from other actives. It is compatible with vitamin C, niacinamide, AHAs, and peptides. It can be used morning and evening without photosensitivity concerns.

What is the difference between bakuchiol and babchi oil?

They are not the same ingredient. Babchi oil is derived from the same plant but contains high levels of psoralens — phototoxic compounds that can cause skin irritation, blistering, and increased UV damage. Bakuchiol is the isolated, purified molecule that does not contain psoralens and has a documented safety profile. Products listing babchi oil or Psoralea corylifolia extract as their "bakuchiol" source are not using authentic bakuchiol.

Can I use bakuchiol every day?

Yes. Bakuchiol does not cause the photosensitivity or purge period associated with retinol and is suitable for daily morning and evening use. No adjustment period is required.

Is bakuchiol good for sensitive skin?

Yes. Bakuchiol's primary advantage over retinol is its tolerability profile. It is suitable for sensitive, reactive, and rosacea-prone skin — skin types that frequently cannot tolerate retinoids at effective concentrations.

What is the difference between the Bakuchiol Smoothing Serum and the Bakuchiol Night Repair Cream?

The serum is a lightweight daily treatment delivering 1% Sytenol® A bakuchiol in a botanical oil base, suitable for morning and evening use. The night cream adds 0.3% retinyl palmitate and ceramides to the bakuchiol base, targeting overnight barrier repair and skin renewal. For retinol-sensitive skin, the serum is the appropriate choice. For skin that tolerates vitamin A derivatives, the night cream provides a combined approach.
